Summary of the Story
Daniel was the faithful servant of God when King Darius ruled Babylon. Since he is honest, wise, and excellent, the king tries to make him the ruler of all. Jealous of Daniel, other officials created a law forbidding prayer to any god but the king for thirty days, knowing that he would pray unto God. So Daniel prayed three times daily toward God. He was not afraid! This created huge problems for him, and the next thing you know, he was thrown into a den of ravenous lions.
By morning God had sent his angel to shut the mouths of the lions, and Daniel was unharmed. Early the next morning, King Darius went to check if Daniel was still alive, and upon learning he was, gave glory to the living God. King Darius Honors Daniel
The Medes and Persians had a government after Babylon, as King Darius became king. Daniel earned the backing of the new kings due to Daniel’s faithfulness and righteousness. So Darius appointed Daniel to such a high rank. This outraged the other officials and rulers. They would not accept a foreigner and slave getting so much glory and influence.
Although they tried to find something of which to accuse Daniel, they could not do so. Daniel was a faithful, loyal, and trustworthy man. It was the greatest testament to his character.

When Daniel did not give his enemies anything to accuse him of, they conspired to use his reputation against him. The plot was both political and sinister because they knew Daniel had a rich relationship with God. They knew that Daniel prayed to God three times a day. They then told King Darius that for thirty days no one should pray to or request anything from anyone except the king.

The king said to Daniel
“May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you.” This very sentence was an indication that the king, too, had some knowledge of how powerful Daniel’s God really was.

Dark night
That night King Darius did not sleep. He was worried about Daniel. All night he did not eat and remained restless. His sleep, his peace, and his serenity were history. Then Daniel, who was among the lions. Escape was never on the horizon for mankind at this point.

Morning joy
King Darius was extremely anxious and ran to the lions’ den at dawn. He shouted Daniel’s name in excitement, hot and holding his breath. His voice had notes of fear and hope. Daniel said that the angel of God had come down and he had shut his mouth. This answer was more than news; it was also an affirmation of God’s faithfulness.
