PURPOSE OF WORSHIP
Worship is a great way of connecting with God deeply in spirit, sometimes a perfect gate-way to commune with him in prayers, fasting or meditation. Worship distracts the mind, calms the mind and even the heaviest load or burden feels light. It brings the spirit and soul closer to God in a focused or centred way. Showing our gratitude to the Almighty father for all He has done for us, His Grace, faithfulness and love, all the wonderful things He has done and is still doing for us, He sent His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins so that we are saved. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” The least we can do is to always rejoice and glorify His Mighty name in all aspects of our daily life.
WORSHIP IN DAILY LIFE
Our daily lives reflect the love, faithfulness and Grace of God, so wherever we are, as long as we are alive, being created in His own image, our mere physical presence glorify God and so should our spirit and soul. Though our day might be saturated and sometimes even oversaturated, we can look for moments where we can worship without obstructing our schedules or disturbing others
On our way to work or school or to any activity of the day, we can still worship God, travelling in our cars or using any mode of public transport still makes it convenient. In our cars we can download worship songs and devotions to listen to while on our way, travelling by public transport is still convenient by using ear plugs or headsets so that we do not disturb others. Worship at this moment uplifts the spirit in a wonderful way, it brings smiles on the face and joy in the heart, it opens and brightens your day and makes you feel lighter, it gives you a boost of energy to start the day. Your atmosphere feels refreshed and peaceful.
Worship is common in natural places like our homes, gardens, mountains, by lakes, quiet places in nature, in open areas, forests, etc. It feels more spiritual when we worship in nature, we feel our spirit and soul, lifted, we feel the sensation of being heard by ourselves and speaking to God directly, we do not have the feeling of pleasing others, so we are in full expression of ourselves. Most people feel the need to withdraw close to nature like sitting by the lake side, for evening devotion far from the noises of life, where they can reflect, sit and talk to God, worship and pray, they feel they get more inspired. Jesus Christ often preached by sea sides, Mark 4:1 “He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Then He sat down and taught the people from the boat”, Jesus preached on the mountains in Matthew 5:1-2, gardens like Gethsemane where He went to pray, often withdrawing to quiet or natural places.
The simple act of worship is usually cultivated at home with family or a more natural environment, outside with friends, singing or worshipping with music while cooking, coming from school with friends, connecting with colleagues, etc. Sometimes during concerts, church festivals, religious ceremonies, church services, choir or singing practices. Worship at home can also constitute the rules of the home during certain hours of the day at a particular area of the house or when there is a family reunion on appointed days of the week hence the adage “A family that sings together stays together”
BIBLICAL WORSHIP
Singing is a way of worship, our daily lifestyle, whatever our calling or activity of the day is does not exclude the worship of God, through obedience and sacrifice in the smallest things with do, we give reverence to God and make our hearts align with God’s word. Glorifying God and honouring His Holy name is a great way of showing our gratitude for His creation, we were created in His image so, we do not always worship Him only on Sundays but and in everything we do. The Sunday service and all its parts are the representative aspects of worship which can be emulated in our daily lives as children of God. In the Bible, the book of Psalms offers many prayers and in parts of Proverbs; Proverbs 30:7-9, which can be used to worship God. It involves physical expressions like kneeling, bowing, singing aloud, dancing, using tambourines or musical instruments, lifting the hands in total surrender and expressions of joy and happiness, being overwhelmed by the Holy spirit, etc.
