Summary of the Story
After God saved the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, Moses directed them east to the Promised Land. They soon found themselves trapped between Pharaoh and his giant army and the Red Sea. Anxiety engulfed people, and they thought about if they would survive. God commanded Moses to not be afraid and lift his staff over the sea.
The sea was pushed aside with the strong force of God, creating a dry road through the waters. Indeed, the Israelites had passed safely over dry ground, but when the Egyptian army pursued them, God commanded these waters to return and wash away this army and, in so doing, completely freed His people.
Introduction
One of the greatest, most powerful, and surest stories in the Old Testament is that of the Israelites passing over through the midst of a divided Red Sea. It was more than a solemn occasion but an ongoing projection of the power and faithfulness of a living God who is incredibly passionate about His people.
The moral of the story is when man shuts his path, God opens others to him. When fear abounds, God will still not leave His servants alone.
God’s promise and Moses’ courage
That was already part of the plan of God. God had promised His people a better land than the slavery they were finding themselves in. It wasn’t just a single word of promise; it was part of God’s whole plan.
He knew that Pharaoh as a cruel monarch would not take heed so easily. However, God told Moses that his real power was not in himself but rather in all of the help he would receive from God. This verse tells us that when God calls a person, even their weakness becomes strength.
The slavery of the Israelites
And in the land of Egypt, the Israelites lived as slaves for many years. They had a period of peace and dignity after Joseph, but eventually a new pharaoh who knew not Joseph became king. This displeased him, and he wanted to kill the growing number of Israelites. Pharaoh made them work hard. Men were forced to provide sweat-breaking & laborious services, and women and children existed under circumstances of dread and consternation. He sent a special messenger, Moses, as their herald to bring them out of bondage. It was now apparent God’s plan is taking shape and the day of emancipation is near.
Moses’ call
It is also the plan of God for Moses to be born. God preserved Moses when Pharaoh sought to kill the babies. He was eventually pulled from the water and brought to live in Pharaoh’s home, growing up with the royal family. But God gave him concern and compassion for his people. Fast forward many years, when Moses was in Midian and God appeared to him in a flame of fire. The Lord called Moses to go back to Egypt and ask Pharoah to release His people.
Moses said he was weak, that he could not speak well. He explained how humbled he was, and the Lord replied that He would be with them. So was Moses fitted for great work. But it was not only an assurance at once, a statement of identity and capability, but also the burden of testimony; the call would have consequences that could alter almost the entire nation’s trajectory for all time.
Pharaoh’s refusal
And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did as the LORD had commanded. With that, they shared it with dignity and boldness, saying these words: God wants His people free. However, Pharaoh kept his heart stubborn. He did not heed the command of God and continued in his arrogance. Pharaoh, as a leader, believed that he was great, and therefore his military and orders were everything.
He increased the burdens of the Israelites rather than forgiving them. But the almighty God began to unleash different storms on Egypt to show His might. Pharaoh would be sorry for a time and then change his mind. That series was the evidence that when man is with a heart full of arrogance, he has no place for truth inside. In this way, God showed that no force of the world can take action against Him.
Last watch
Eventually, God sent His harshest plague upon Egypt. Previously, the Israelites were commanded to prepare themselves for this plague and act on God’s command. It was not just food or ritual preparation but a test of faith and obedience. And Egypt did swell with crying and mourning when the last plague came. Every home was filled with fear and regret.
Pharaoh was devastated and commanded that Moses and the Israelites leave the country. Up to yesterday, the only slaves in this nation were now at the gates of freedom. The moment for which the Israelites had long waited. The people of God were being released from slavery because God had opened the door for them to leave. This is all evidence that God’s timing is always the best.
The Passover
When the Israelites prepared for Passover, it was an act of faith in following God’s command, not simply a ritual. This preparation also marked the start of a new journey. They also reminded each other in preparation that God had not forgotten them.
Their homes glimmered with hope, and they proceeded forward with great strides towards their next location. Simply a question of desire but rather one of dedication and faith. The heart of a person is one that accepts the laws of God, and he earns the mercy of Him.
Freedom to travel
And in a short time, the children of Israel were ready to go forth upon their way. This was not just a revival for them; it conveyed the living feeling of God. All along God was with them.
The people moved with joyfulness, wonder, and hope. In the hope of a more glorious tomorrow, they thought that God was driving them on. They were no longer slaves, but they now just dreamed of a new life. However, the journey was still far from over. But of course, a tough exam was approaching for them.
Chasing the Pharaoh
This is followed by several days during which Pharaoh regrets. He came to know he had made a big mistake by deserting his followers. Feeding his pride and anger, he mustered his troops and began to hunt the Israelites down. When the children of Israel saw Pharaoh coming near, they were afraid. Before them the Red Sea, behind them a mighty army.
Horrified, they recognized what they saw. They felt like they were trapped, with no escape. Worried, they started to complain to Moses. The despair in their hearts forced them to wonder if they would be captured again. But that was just the warm-up God had prepared for the ultimate challenge of His power.
Moses’ Trust
Moses believed it when the people were in despair. He said that the people should not be afraid of anything but that they should turn to God for help. His behavior was one of a peaceful leader, and his speech combined faith with authority. He knew that God would not leave him to look out through the darkness after coming so far.
God could do anything except fail, only in some cases not using our insurmountable circumstances. It was when the eyes of man saw only closed paths, but those of the servant beheld merely a few open mercies of God. It was a moment that tested their faith and trust. Moses’ belief sparked bravery in everyone else. His memory served as a reminder to the people that with God on their side, they had nothing to fear.
By the sea
The Israelites were stuck on the beaches of the sea. Trouble loomed on every side. For them, there was no way out. Only water and fear and that waiting. Yet the Lord frequently does what we cannot fathom as mere mortals. Just when it seems that all hope is gone, God demonstrates His power. Right at this time a great miracle was to happen that would echo through the ages. Because anyone who has made it into the final phase of life can learn from this scene. God’s path is never closed. The only thing different from what we think is the timing and wisdom of Him.

Life Application
This is one kind of great national event that commands Christians to have faith while situations get as hopeless as keeping on living. And just as God opened a way through the sea for the Israelites, when there was no way or human possibility of escape out of Egypt, so too God will open a way where we see none. Despite the anxieties, Christians are to pray and obey the Word of God and quietly wait for His directions.
The Red Sea Parts
Then God ordered Moses to raise his stick in the direction of the sea. Moses obeyed God’s command. Yes, he did that, which was truly miraculous and utterly impossible to human eyes. All of a sudden a powerful wind started to blow. Sea water parted and a dry path appeared in between. It was only this scene that left people aghast.
Once there was water, where there is now a walking path. He opened the sea so that His people would have another way. This was not merely the movement of water, but here a glimpse of God’s blessings that was trusted by believers for centuries until today.
Crossing on Dry Ground
This is now the dry path that the Israelites walked across. On both sides of them were channels of water. They witnessed the mighty hand of God in every step. And so, what was impossible now passed before reality. Walking this path was not merely a physical experience; it was an exercise in faith. Everyone felt a strange mix of doubt, wonder, and fear. Still, God managed the safe passage from one end of the sea to the other for the entire group. This moment was the validation that whenever God makes a way for His slaves, it’s not half but complete and secured. His mercy never fails.
The Egyptian Army was Destroyed.
This is the road that Pharaoh and his legion took. They believed that they would conquer the Israelites and take back their land. That line of thinking brought about their demise. After God had caused the people to cross over, He commanded Moses to lift his staff once more. And the seas resumed their place, and Pharaoh’s army was drowned in them. Thus, God saved His servants entirely. This was not the punishment of an army, but the punishment of pride and tyranny and arrogance. That they oppress my own serfs and that God makes them perish.
Testimony after the event.
It was at this time of the glorious miracle that the hearts of all Israelites filled with praises and gratitude to God. You witnessed them all with their own eyes and saw that in due time God fulfills His promises and helps. Not only was it an event but also the biggest life lesson of their lives. They simply replaced the old memory of God’s power with a newer one.
They would tell the story to children; they would tell their elders this story, and generations passed, drawing strength from this incident. This testimony still lives in the hearts of believers today. This post-miracle testimony serves as a reminder that the works of God are not only temporal but also for 4 generations to come. And what transpired on that day remains the most tangible evidence of God in power to this very moment.
A Song of Praise
And the Israelites were filled with awe at God. Inside their words there was happiness; contentment inside their hearts. This was the day which turned out to be a historic day in his life.
His Master had not only rescued him from slavery and oppression but also delivered him from his enemies. He learned that verily, those who rely on God never get disgraced. More than just an emotional moment for them, this feeling of gratitude was a beautiful new beginning. When one realizes the favor of God, their heart immediately prostrates itself.

Conclusion
One of the most remarkable events in the Old Testament is perhaps the miracles at the Red Sea, a true testament to who God is. All along, the cornered Israelites saw no way to escape, but God made a new path for them through the sea.
The story teaches us that God did not promise a life free from trouble, especially in this time when the seas of life are choppy and everything seems at odds with what we hoped for. The God who can split the Red Sea in two is the same God who can emerge from our dark moments. Trust in Him in every circumstance, accept His mercy, and believe that His power is greater than all obstacles.
